On the east hillside of Gubeikou stands an earth-pillar of about 7 meters high, which is said to be the tomb of Yang Qilang, the seventh son of Yangs in Song Dynasty. There is a legend that Yang Ye, the father of Yangs, was trapped in the war against Liao Kingdom in Song Dynasty, but the chief Commander Pan Renmei refused to send the reinforcement as he was secretly in league with Liao. In order to rescue his father and brothers, Yang Qilang broke through the tight encirclement, but unfortunately, in search of the relief troops he was killed by Pan Renmei and his body was cruelly cut apart and thrown into Chao River. Concerned about his father and brother, one of his legs ran along the river and was rescued by the people in Gubeikou who afterwards built a tomb for him. Because he wanted to help his father and brother so much, his tomb turned into an earth-pillar which scared Pan Renmei who, therefore, built a high tower on the top of the hill to press him down. Later on, the pillar was considered as the tomb of Yang Qilang and people after him established a monument to remember him. | | |
