Wuling Mountain Dragon Pool Scenic Area is located in the western side of Wuling Mountain, which is on the crossing part between the northeastern part of Miyun County and Xinglong County of Hebei Province. Wuling Mountain is the highest peak in Yanshan Mountain range, with the altitude being 2118 meters. The annual average temperature is 7.6℃. The highest temperature in summer is 28℃. With plentiful rainfall, the climate is always cool. With abundant living creatures, more than 1870 kinds of higher plants and 173 kinds of terrestrial vertebrates, Wulingshan is honored with “the gene storeroom of species in North China” by the experts. So, it is a good base for scientific research, practice teaching and science education.
Wuling Mountain Dragon Pool Scenic Area is a state-level natural reserve. In 1995, the area is enrolled into the Chinese and Biosphere Natural Reserve Network. Under the protection for many years, the creatures in Wuling Mountain increased continuously. The storage of the forests has been up to 1.06 million sq km, with the covering rate of the forests being 80.29%.
