Fish Gourmet Festival is the theme activity held in autumn Miyun with profound local characteristics.
In Miyun, there are three points of beauty—reservoir fish, tofu (bean curd) and water, and the reservoir fish are the best of Miyun. In golden September of every year, Miyun Reservoir which has been quiet for 5 months ushers in the busy season when the reservoir is opened for fishing. The fresh reservoir fish sent to the market reach more than 5,000 kg every day, and the tourists can enjoy the delicious fish in nearly 100 restaurants, more than 2000 folk families and over 100 fishery communities in Miyun. In addition, there are some interesting points in eating the reservoir fish: the first is to eat the unique fish. Miyun Reservoir has “golden carps of Chao and Bai Rivers” which are called “mermaids”; the second is to eat the biggest which is the very “King Fish” for auction. In Miyun Reservoir, people have ever caught a herring of 182cm in length and 72kg in weigh; the third is to eat the smallest. There are Japanese pond smelts spreading in the reservoir like the scattered stars.
In order to popularize the organic fish band of Miyun reservoir and attract more visitors to pick in Miyun and savor the green fresh and dried fruits, the county has hold this activity successively for many years. There are more than ten activities, like “King Fish” auction, proliferating and freeing fry, 300 boats going down into the river at the same time for fishing, fishing fair, fishing competition and cycling travel around Miyun Reservoir.
