2008 Beijing·Miyun Agriculture Festival
Green Farming and Spring Miyun
Agriculture has a long history in China. According to the textual research, the ancient Chinese Agriculture can be traced back to Shen Nung，the Emperor Yan who, as the Han ancestor of Chinese farming people, has realized the great contribution and tremendous influence the nomadic culture has on the Agriculture and the transition from the nomadic to farming production as well as the development of Chinese agricultural economic culture. Beijing is the very intersection place of this Han Agriculture and the nomadic cultural outside. Serving as the old capital of Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Beijing has made indelible contribution to the continuation and development of Chinese Agriculture. The Agriculture Festival, held by Miyun County of Beijing City, is designed to uncover the intension of suburban Agriculture of Beijing, to develop the culture tourist brand and to uphold the time-honored Chinese culture. With the peculiar landscape of Miyun and organic agriculture, the festival offers a feast of travel, culture and entertainment through a series of interesting activities for experiencing farming work with mountains and streams around and a variety of colorful large-scaled theme activities.
With the initiation of Miyun Tourism Administration, the first spring “Agriculture Festival” was solemnly held by Miyun government and concerned departments together in Miyun County which is praised as “original landscape and experiencing leisure”, in April, 2007. This activity includes: the opening ceremony and spring Miyun farming sports meeting of interest; healthy tour in ecological Miyun; youngsters camp for experiencing Agriculture; planting in the Miyun land and going sightseeing, going to fair and the exhibition of Miyun organic products, etc.
Nowadays, the busier and the more crowded the city becomes, the more eager people are to return to the farming. After the long winter hibernation, the colorfulness of the mountains and the fragrance of the spring soil are attracting people to get close to nature and release their energy. Miyun Agriculture Festival, of which the theme is the peculiar Agriculture, has ingeniously integrated the rich tourist resources of Miyun, enabling Beijing citizens to experience the unique charm of Miyun culture and its historic deposits.
